ED summons Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren in illegal mining case

On Wednesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) issued summons to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren asking him to appear before them for questioning in the central agency's probe into the illegal mining case.

He is likely to appear before the ED's regional office in Ranchi, Jharkhand at around 11.30 am on November 3.

  • This move comes almost a month after the agency arrested one Pankaj Mishra, a close aide of Soren and seized a passbook and a chequebook, including two signed cheques of Soren from him.

"The CM has been asked to appear before the investigating officer on Thursday for questioning. Some facts have been revealed during our investigations against his aide Pankaj Mishra which need to be verified," the Indian Express quoted an ED official.

In September, the agency informed a special court that they detected illegal mining of stones worth more than Rs 1,000 crore in Sahibganj district and adjoining areas of Jharkhand, all controlled by Mishra.
