On Wednesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches at former Maharashtra minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Hasan Mushrif's residence in Kolhapur in connection with a sugar mill corruption case.

The central agency also raided the offices of other associated individuals in Pune and a few other locations.

In 2022, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kirit Somaiya submitted a complaint against Mushrif with the Enforcement Directorate (ED). He had accused Mushrif of Rs 100-crore corruption in Kolhapur's Appasaheb Nalawade sugar factory through a private firm allegedly owned and controlled by one of his relatives.

Somaiya had alleged that the sugar factory was taken over by Brics India Private Limited, in which Mateem Hasin Mangoli, the minister’s relative, was an owner. No process was followed by Mushrif or others while awarding the bid to Brics India.

Somaiya also claimed in another complaint that Mushrif was involved in the illegal diversion and laundering of Rs 127 crore from another sugar mill, Sar Senapati Santaji Ghorpade sugar mill.
