In a recent announcement, the Bombay Milk Producers Association (BMPA) has taken the decision to increase the wholesale rate of buffalo milk from Rs 80 to Rs 85 per litre.

The retail rate is expected to rise to Rs 90-95. The new rates will be in effect from March 1 to August 31. According to suppliers, the day will not be far off when buffalo milk will cost Rs 100 per litre.

Association spokesman C K Singh said, "The cost of milch animals and their fodder, has all risen by 15-25%. Grass and straw is much more expensive too. Hence, we have no option but to raise wholesale prices from Rs 80 to 85 per litre."
