Court sends Kejriwal to judicial custody until 12 July

On 29 June, 2024, the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi ordered Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to judicial custody until 12 July in connection with the excise policy case. Vacation Judge Sunena Sharma made the decision, following CBI advocate DP Singh's request, citing Kejriwal's lack of cooperation during police interrogation and evasive responses regarding evidence.

Kejriwal was questioned about the profit margin increase for wholesalers from 5% to 12% under the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22, approved hastily during the second COVID wave. He also faced questions about meetings between his associate Vijay Nair and liquor business stakeholders, as well as the alleged transfer of Rs. 44.54 crores to Goa Assembly elections.

CBI claimed Kejriwal's influence as a prominent politician could lead to witness tampering and evidence manipulation. On 26 June, Kejriwal was initially remanded for three days of CBI custody. During his court address, he denied making statements against Manish Sisodia and accused the CBI of spreading false information to tarnish his and his party's reputation.
