India's temples are among the largest human gathering points on the planet, receiving millions of devotees daily. That scale of footfall also makes them significant generators of plastic waste, a problem that has grown harder to ignore in and around sacred spaces. Temple Connect and Blueprint Water are now addressing this directly through a partnership that introduces eco-friendly packaged drinking water across temple towns, pilgrimage destinations, and large-scale religious festivals across India.
Blueprint Water will deploy recyclable, paper-based water packaging as a replacement for conventional plastic bottles. The solution is designed to fit into existing temple operations without disruption, scaling from daily on-premises distribution to high-footfall festival requirements, while carrying a significantly lower environmental footprint.
"Dharma teaches us responsibility, not just towards people, but towards the planet. Our temples have the power to influence millions of lives every day. Through this partnership with Blueprint Water, we are enabling sacred spaces to lead by example by adopting practices that are clean, responsible, and future-ready," said Giresh Vasudev Kulkarni, Founder, Temple Connect and ITCX International Temples Convention and EXPO.
The initiative goes beyond product deployment. An Eco-Hero campaign will encourage pilgrims to carry reusable bottles and make environmentally conscious choices during their visits. Temples and associated institutions will also receive support on implementation, responsible disposal, and strengthening waste management systems.
"At Blueprint, our focus has always been to make sustainability easy to adopt at scale. Temples are among the largest consumption hubs in the country, and even a small shift here can create a meaningful environmental impact. Our solution is designed to be cost-effective, operationally seamless, and adaptable across formats, from daily temple use to high-footfall festivals. We're excited to partner with Temple Connect to drive this transition across India's spiritual ecosystem," said Anuj Shah, Co-Founder, Blueprint Water.
The rollout will happen in phases across select temple towns and events, with a long-term goal of making sustainable water packaging the default choice across India's religious and cultural destinations.
