Prasoon Joshi appointed chairman of Prasar Bharati

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has appointed renowned lyricist, writer, and communications expert Prasoon Joshi as the new Chairman of Prasar Bharati, India's statutory public service broadcaster, with effect from May 2, 2026.

Joshi brings a distinguished career spanning literature, advertising, cinema, and public communication to the role. He is widely recognised for his acclaimed Bollywood lyrics and landmark advertising campaigns, and has played a significant part in shaping contemporary Indian media narratives. His appointment comes at a critical juncture as public broadcasting grapples with rapid technological transformation and shifting audience expectations.

Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw said on the occasion, "My heartfelt congratulations to Shri Prasoon Joshi ji on his appointment as Chairman of the Prasar Bharati Board. Prasoon ji is a rare creative spirit celebrated across the world in advertising, literature, art and cinema, yet his heart beats unmistakably for India. Prior to this appointment, Prasoon Joshi had served as Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in Mumbai since August 2017, and previously held the positions of CEO of McCann World Group India and Chairman of McCann World Group Asia Pacific. He has also been a Trustee of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts since 2016.
