| Kanye West decided to run for president in an MTV show in 2015 |
US rapper Kanye West took to Twitter over the weekend to announce he was running for president, with his declaration quickly going viral and prompting a flurry of speculation.
West is best known for his music, with his rap career really taking off when his album The College Dropout was released to critical acclaim in 2004.
He has since gone on to release a dozen albums, winning 21 Grammy awards for his work.
Early in his music career West also dabbled in fashion design, collaborating with brands on projects until he premiered his women's fashion label in 2011.
He is also known for his marriage to reality TV star Kim Kardashian.
