Around 550 students lose one year due to Low Attendance

More than 500 under graduate students are set to lose one year of their academic year because of low attendance in Mithibai College after Supreme Court on Friday dismissed 2 special leave petition filed by them against the college.

The College has reduced the attendance rule from 75% to 60% to be allowed to appear for the examination. Earlier students with attendance of 59% were also allowed to give exam but not this year.

The High Court had diminished another petition on the same issue filed on March 12 by 107 students, observing that the court could not compromise with the attendance discipline. Following this the students had approach the Supreme Court.

The college administration had urged after the semester had ended they had informed students that the overall attendance required to be eligible to appear for the exam was 60% from earlier 75%.

The college which is an autonomous institution as disallowed 550 senior college students from Arts Science and Commerce to appear for the 2nd 4th and 6th semester exams respectively.
