The semi finals of Europa League kicked off yesterday when record time winners Sevilla faced England's most successful team and 2017 winners Manchester United for a place in this season Competition's final.
These two meet for the first time since 2018 in Champions League Round of 16 tie in which the first leg finished 0-0 and Sevilla won the second leg 2-1 to show Manchester United the exit door.
Coming into the match, Sevilla beat Wolves 1-0 through a late Ocampos goal. United had to dig even deep to get here after beating FC Københaven in extra time 1-0 through Bruno Fernandes's another penalty.
Manchester United made a good start and were awarded a season high 22nd penalty when Marcus Rashford went down in the box. Up step Bruno Fernandes again to convert from the spot to give them 1-0 lead.
Sevilla had shown resistance in this season Europa League as they had lost only 1 of the 8 games they had played. They equalised in the 26th minute through former Liverpool player Suso as questions were asked about United's defensive mistakes especially Captain Harry Maguire as he was seen too confused about where the ball went.
In the second half, VAR disallowed 2 penalties for Manchester United in the 74th and 85th minute. The game was decided in the 78th minute when Luuk De Jong scored his first goal in 11 games, thanks to an assist from Former Manchester City man Jesus Navas.
This defeat means United have lost 3 semi finals this season after losing 3-2 on aggregate in the Carabao Cup to Rivals City,3-1 in the FA Cup Semi Final Against Chelsea and now against Sevilla.
For Sevilla they will have to wait to see whom they face in the final when Inter Milan face off against Shaktar Donetsk.
