The traditional match between Champions League Winners vs Europa League Winners this season saw Treble Winners Bayern Munchen take on Europa League Winners Sevilla for the chance to add another trophy in their cabinet in the form of the Super Cup.
Bayern came into the match as heavy favourites again. With the new front three of Leroy Sane, Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry it was going to be hard for Sevilla to stop them. But in reality,it took extra time for Bayern to beat Sevilla 2-1 to win the Cup.
Bayern Centre back David Alaba gave away a penalty in the 12th minute. Lucas Ocampos took full use of that opportunity to make it 1-0 to Sevilla and give them a shock start.
Bayern did got their deserved leveller through Leon Goretzka assisted by Robert Lewandowski in the 34th minute to make it 1-1. In the second half Robert Lewandowski had a goal ruled out by VAR for offside in the 51th minute.
The game winner came in extra time through Javier Martinez's 104th minute strike at a time when Sevilla's defenders had started to show signs of fatigue and tiredness. Bayern will now host Hoffenhiem as Sevilla travel to newly promoted Cadiz.
