Heavy Rains thundered in Mumbai

 

On September 23,2020 since Midnight the City of Mumbai received one of most highest showers in this monsoon season and more rains is likely to continue till September 25 as Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has urged people to stay at home.

Heavy showers overnight and in morning saw water-logging in many parts of the town. All office Workers were advised not to leave the home as the transportation facilities were down.

IMD's Deputy Director General K S Hosalikar said "Mumbai received one of the heaviest rainfall in the last 24 hours". He said more rains are likely to continue till Thursday morning after the vortex shifts to Rajasthan.

The Santacruz Observatory reported 286.4 millimeters of Rain till 8:30 in the morning today. This is the fourth highest daily figure between 1974 till 2020. The highest figure than this is 318.2 mm on September 23,1981, 312.4 mm on September 23, 1993 and 303.7 mm on September 20,2017.

Mumbai had received heavy Rains in the first week of August and one in June. In the August one large scale damage was done as Landslides in Kandivali and in Pedder Road was reported. This time fortunately no lasting damage was done.
