Rajasthan Royals Beat Chennai Super Kings by 16 Runs

 

The 5th match of Dream 11 IPL saw the first time a team had crossed the total of 200+ runs when Rajasthan Royals Defeated Chennai Super Kings by 16 Runs in a game which saw 33 combined sixes and a score of 416 within 40 overs.

Chennai won the toss and elected to bowl again as they did in the first game against Mumbai.CSK were without the injured Ambati Rayudu and was replaced by Debutant Ruturaj Gaikward.

Rajasthan lost 18 year old debutant Jaiswal quickly at the score of 11/1. Then it was time for the Sanju Samson and Steve Smith Show. The duo blasted up 121 run partnership between them as Samson destroyed Chennai Spinner Piyush Chawla. Samson scored 74 runs of just 32 balls with 1 four and 9 sixes. After his departure quick wickets fell but Captain Steve Smith kept his cool at the other end as he scored 69 runs of 47 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes. 

The end of the innings made the difference as Jofra Archer smashed four sixes in the last over of Lungi Ngidi as Rajasthan finished with a score of 216/7. If CSK were to win the game then they had to chase the largest score in the history of IPL.

Chennai knew that they had to start fast if they wanted to do something. After a quick start CSK lost Shane Watson at the score of 56/1. 5 balls later they lost Murali Vijay as well as the scoreboard displayed 58/2. Sam Curran fired some shots but fell as quickly as he came after he scored 17 runs of just 6 balls with a four and 2 sixes. Gaikward had a nightmare debut as he had a golden duck and soon CSK were 77/4 with 9 overs gone.

At that moment CSK knew the game had skipped away from them. Faf Du Plessis kept trying from his side. He scored 72 runs of 37 balls with1 four and 7 sixes. Many believe that Dhoni could have started firing earlier. With 36 runs remaining of 4 balls, Dhoni smashed 3 sixes and a four to help CSK narrow the margin of Defeat by 16 Runs as CSK putted up 200/6.
