Maharashtra Crosses 10 Lakh Covid-19 Cases, faces shortage of oxygen tank in some areas

With 24,886 Covid-19 Positive Cases on Friday, Maharashtra became the first state in India to cross the alarming mark of 10 Lakh Cases. As things Stand Maharashtra has more cases than most of the countries. The total number of cases in Maharashtra (at the moment of writing this) is 10,15,681 cases with 2,71,934 cases.

But that is not the only problem faced by Maharashtra. The northern part of Maharashtra and Marthawada regions are facing a shortage of oxygen supply.

On Friday one hospital in Osamabad faced this problem. A man on ventilator needed oxygen tank but the hospitals had run out of it. They kept on making frequent calls to oxygen dealers. A sole Cylinder would last 3 hours for any patient.

Mohit Patil, an oxygen cylinder dealer said that the urge of oxygen tank and supply has suddenly increased since a week and there isn't enough tanks to supply to the hospitals. He was later able to deliver some tanks to the hospital in Osamabad who were able to save that man.

Within 14 days the number of active cases in Maharashtra has increased from 1.8 lakh to 2.7 lakh. Within a span of 6 days the state has seen around 1 lakh cases which does not indicate good signs.

According to reports everyday around 2,000-3,000 patients need oxygen support and critical patients need around 40-60 litre of oxygen for one minute. Major oxygen generators or conversion plants are located in Mumbai, Pune, Kolhapur and Nashik leaving the remaining districts with less supply of oxygen.
