No Changes in Restrictions in Mumbai,Police clears confusion regarding Section 144

 

The Mumbai Police has clarified the confusion which has started to come up among the people after the news broke out that Section 144 has been imposed once again in the city after the sudden surge in Covid-19 cases.

As announced yesterday, Section 144 will be imposed again till September 30th but this is merely an 'extension' of the previous order and no changes have been made in August 31 guidelines released by the Centre.

Mumbai Police Spokesperson DCP N Ambika said "DCP(operations) has issued an order under Section 144 of the CrPC yesterday which will be applicable in Mumbai till September 30. It is issued as per the guidelines received from state government on August 31 regarding easing of restrictions and phase wise opening of lockdown(Mission Begin Again) no new or fresh restrictions have been imposed by the Mumbai Police."

Mumbai reported 2389 new cases on Thursday taking the city's Tally to 1,78,285 cases. The number of active cases increased to 32,849 despite 1187 Recoveries. With that the city's recovery rate reached 77% with 1,36,739 Recoveries. The death toll increased to 8,320 with 43 new deaths according to the data provided by BMC.
