Former 3 time Cy Young Award Winner Clayton Kershaw started the game for the Dodgers whereas Tyler Glasnow took the mound for the Rays in the opposition dugout.
After three scoreless innings thanks to great pitching from both Glasnow and Kershaw, it was the Dodgers who struck first.In the bottom of the 4th inning,NLCS Game 7 hero for the Dodgers Cody Bellinger slammed a 2 run home run.
Kershaw pitched 6 innings with 8 strikeouts. His 7th strikeouts meant he had surpassed Hall of Famer John Smoltz and had reached 200 K's in the postseason.Only Justin Verlander has more with 205 K's. He though gave away a run in the game.Kevin Kiermaier slammed a solo home in the top of the 5th inning to cut the deficient in half and brought the Rays back into the game.
The Dodgers opened up the game in the bottom of the 5th inning.With runners on 2nd and 3rd and despite a low grounder and good defensive play by the Rays, they were unable to stop Mookie Betts from scoring.
Will Smith then drove in an RBI single to make it 4-1 for the Dodgers. That resulted the last action of the game for Tyler Glasnow as he was changed after pitching 112 pitches in 5 innings. Taylor then drove in the 3rd run of the 5th inning with his RBI single with 2 outs. Pinch hitter Enrique Hernandez then drove in a run through a RBI single to make it a 4 run inning for the Dodgers as they extended their lead to 6-1.
The Dodgers didn't stop there. They added more runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. A First Home Run of the postseason by Mookie Betts made it 7-1 for LAD. Then a RBI Double by Max Muncy brought Justin Turner home as the scoreboard displayed 8-1 in the favour of Dodgers.
The Rays didn't go down without a fightback. With runners on 2nd and 1st in the top of the 7th inning, pinch hitter Brosseau delivered a RBI single. Then Kevin Kiermaier got a RBI single to make it 8-3. However the fight back was short lived and the Rays failed to score again as Dodgers took Game 1.
