At least 27 people were killed and dozens injured after a massive fire tore through a popular bar and restaurant in Bangkok's Chatuchak district late on July 12, 2026. The blaze broke out around 11:57 PM local time at Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao, a well known entertainment venue on Lat Phrao Road near Soi Lat Phrao 1 in the Chom Phon subdistrict. Bangkok officials said 63 people were hospitalised, with 22 in critical condition. The deceased included nine men and 18 women.
Firefighters arriving at the scene found the building engulfed in flames with thick smoke rapidly filling the premises. Rescue crews later discovered that many victims had become trapped inside the venue, including in its toilets, as the fire spread quickly through the crowded space. Officials said the blaze was likely triggered by an electrical short circuit in a ceiling-mounted air conditioner.
Video footage from the scene showed panicked patrons fleeing while emergency responders performed CPR on casualties on the road outside. Multiple fire units brought the blaze under control in approximately 35 minutes. Survivors with burns and smoke inhalation were taken to nearby hospitals, while others were treated by medical teams at the scene before being transported for further care.
The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation by police and forensic teams. Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited the scene and confirmed the death toll to reporters. "Most of the victims ran to the back, to toilets with no exit. It could be because of panic because there was fire and smoke", Anutin said, according to AFP.
