Filmmaker SD Narang's family in Financial Crisis; Help Extended by Actress Asha Parekh and some others.

Late SD Narang (of Do Thug, Dilli Ka Thug, Anmol Moti fame), who directed 15 films and produced 9, earned enough to ensure that his wife-actress Smriti Biswas (now 91-years-old) and two sons Rajiv (nicknamed Raja) and Satyajeet (nicknamed Jitu) lead a reasonably comfortable life in his plush bungalow in Mumbai's Juhu Scheme. Cruel fate struck in the form of a cardiac arrest to end his life in 1986 when he was 68 and things started changing drastically in his house. Not only did the family disintegrate subsequently but also went into a sad financial mess, so much so that the trio currently stays in small, cramped flats on the outskirts of Nashik.

Problems began for S D Narang's family when Jitu moved out to stay in a rented apartment in a nearby building. The bungalow was soon sold off. And then, the three of them went to live at Yari Road.

A top source said, "After that, Jitu, Raja and Smriti Biswas were never in a good state. The brothers got cheated at various places. S D Narang had a property in Delhi worth Rs 4 crore, which they sold off for a mere Rs 70 lakh! They tried to buy two properties in Wahi- paid a certain person who claimed that he's the owner of those properties but disappeared after taking the money from them."

The source added, "And before all this happened, they had given loans to many people. Forget the interest, the principal amounts were not recovered. They had nobody with legal acumen. Add this to the fact that Raja used to buy colognes worth Rs 50,000 every day over a long span of time and distribute them free."

The negatives of many S D Narang's films were sold off for a meagre Rs 1 lakh. The shocker here is that Jitu and Raja's chacha (paternal uncle) bought the negatives! To which Jitu, when contacted, confirmed and said, "I wasn't even living with Mummy and Raja for some time. Even today near Nashik where we stay, I stay 5 minutes away from where Raja and my mother have put themselves up." The message was clear, the brothers don't get along much with each other. Asked if they still quarrel, Jitu said, "Abhi iss age mein kya jhagadna?"

Thankfully for Smriti Biswas, Raja and Jitu, senior actresses Asha Parekh and Anju Mahendroo and filmmakers Hansal Mehta and Shivendra Singh Dungarpur are pooling in to help them. Contributions from people who are willing to chip in are also being taken.
