Post Mortem Report of 22 Year old Gang-raped Woman in UP Released.

On Tuesday, a 22-year-old Dalit woman who succumbed to her injuries in Balrampur after she was allegedly gang-raped by two men had ruptured blood capillaries and died of shock and haemorrhage, according to her post-mortem report.

This suggests she was possibly thrashed with blunt objects.

While contusions are bruises that appear on account of bleeding under the skin due to trauma of some kind, abrasions are external injuries caused by blunt objects. The nature of her injuries suggests she was hit on different parts of her body.

The injuries, the report says, measured between 3 cm X 1 cm on her breast and 2 cm X 1 cm on her cheek. The post-mortem report does not mention any vaginal injuries or fractures, but does show her hymen was ruptured.

Antemortem injuries led to death. Immediate cause of death is shock and hemorrhage,” the report says.

According to the FIR registered on the basis of her family’s complaint, after the assault, the woman returned home on a rickshaw in a semi-conscious state. She had been “missing” the whole day.

She allegedly complained of uneasiness and stomach pain and, died hours later, while her family was taking her to hospital.

The incident took place after she had left her home in the morning to get enrolled in a degree college in the district, according to the family.

The Balampur police arrested both the accused - Shahid and Sahil (a 16 year old) on Wednesday after it registered an FIR on the basis of a written complaint by the victim’s family. Both the accused have been charged with gang rape and sent to jail, said inspector Kamlesh Kumar, the in-charge of Gaisari police station. The scene of the crime falls under this station’s jurisdiction.

According to police sources, the woman was raped near a grocery store, which the two accused run in the Gaisari area.

In a statement on Twitter, the police said efforts are on to secure a trial in a fast-track court. However, it stressed that the post mortem didn’t reveal fractures in the woman’s arms and legs.
