On Thursday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced that they have put up a ban on bursting or lighting of fire crackers in public places this year in they view of Covid-19.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani has said that if anyone is caught violating this rules then they will be penalized and SOPs will be issued in this regard.
An offical from the BMC has said that this plan is taking into consideration from experts. Bursting of fire crackers may generate and release a lot of smoke which can adversely affect the health of Covid-19 patients and can increase the risk of infections among Senior Citizens and Childrens.
Some reports suggest that the Maharashtra Government may soon imply this rule all over the state considering the scenario of Covid-19 and making preparations of a second wave of infections in winter.
Maharashtra is the country's worst affected state by COVID-19. Cities like Mumbai,Pune,Thane,Nashik, Nagpur,Satara and Raigad have all contributed to it's high case load. So far the state has seen around 16,98,198 cases with 44,548 deaths since the pandemic began in India.
