Doctor in Navi Mumbai Suspended For Providing Fake Reports

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Banger has suspended Dr Sachin Nemane who was in charge of antigen testing at a municipal corporation's testing center for providing " fake test" reports and publishing that reports on the ICMR website.

Because of him, around 10,000 people have been listed on ICMR'S website as negative for COVID-19 despite not taking the actual test at the first place. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has now formed a team to Investigate in this matter and try to find out whether it is a larger scam in similar testing centres.

A Core Committee Member of the Maratha Kranti Morcha, Ankush Madam said that he was the one who thought that something suspicious was going around which needed to be checked.

When asked about this, he said "We decided to see for ourselves so we send a few of our activits for testing. When the NMMC staffers asked them to give details of their family members, they did so. Among the names they gave were those of relatives who had died years ago. As the activists were tested negative, their families weren't called in for testing. But a few days later we saw the name of all the relatives named on the ICMR website as COVID negative, including those of relatives who had died 10 years ago".

Kadam has also claimed that this practice was rampant in other places too and if such irregularities continue to take place then both the government and the citizens are being cheated.

NMMC Commission Abhijit Banger said "Primia Facia we have not found any malafide intention. However it is clear that there was negligence on the part off the data entry operator. Since Dr Nemane was in charge of the testing centre, action has been taken against him. There were false entries from a few centres and we are conducting enquiry to ascertain the number of such entries. The report will be ready in two weeks."

He added "So far around 3.5 lakh people have been tested in Navi Mumbai and prima facie it doesn't look like the number of false entries is more than 2 to 3 per cent of that. Nonetheless we cannot make such mistakes."
