Editors Guild Of India Condemns Journalist Arnab Goswami's Arrest.

On Wednesday Morning the Raigad Police Arrested popular TV News Anchor and Republic Media Network's Editor in Chief Arnab Goswami from his residence in connections with the 2018 Suicide Abetment Case.

The Case which was closed in 2019, is reopened again after a complaint filed by the family member of the person who committed suicide. Around a dozen police officials went to his house to Arrest him and is now taken to the Alibaug Police Station. He was forcefully dragged by the policemen.

The 2018 Suicide Abetment Case is when 53 year old interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother had committed suicide with a suicide note left behind. In the note, Naik wrote that there was no other option available for him to take after he was no paid his dues of around Rs 5.40 Crore. He had named Goswami along with two others named Feroz Shaikh and Niteish Sarda. According to FIR, Goswami owned him a sum of Rs 83 lakh.

After hearing about his arrest The Editors Guild of India made a statement about his arrest and condemned it. The statement read "The Editors Guild of India is shocked to learn the arrest of Arnab Goswami, editor in Chief of Republic TV,in the early hours of Wednesday by the police. Goswami was arrested from his Mumbai residence on reportedly an abetment to suicide case.We condemn the sudden arrest and find it extremely distressing".

The statement further read "The Guild calls upon the Chief Minister of Maharashtra to ensure that Goswami is treated fairly and State Power is not used against critical reporting by the media".

Goswami who has been detained by the Mumbai Police has said to his lawyer that he, his son, his wife and his in laws have been physically abused and assaulted by the Police.
