According to the reports by the police, the Accused is identified as Sana Shaikh(39) a housewife from Nal Bazar. Police Inspector Kedar Pawer informed the media spokesperson that she had been discreetly exchanging Imitation jewellery for real gold around worth Rs 43,100. The jeweller Deepak Rathod got suspicious and checked the CCTV footage and found out about this crime.
He then informed the Byculla Police station and registered a case against her. After arresting her, Shaikh confessed that she would go into the shop 5-6 times a month and click pictures of jewellers and promise to come back and buy them.
She would later visit the store and exchange imitation jewellery in same designs with the real ones. The police believe that she might have committed this crime in other jewellery shops as well.
