Kohli and Ashwin celebrating |
Having finished the first day at the score of 233/6 after 89 overs, India came out to bat trying to add as many runs as possible by the help of tailenders and put pressure on Australia.
However things didn't start off right for India as they lost Ravichandran Ashwin just at the third ball of Day 2. India were not able to do much after that and were soon bowled out at 244 with 93.1 overs been bowled.
With Australia missing David Warner at top, the batting lineup of Australia looked a little weak. They lost both openers Matthew Wade and Joe Burns within quick succession. However Australia's spinal cord of batting was broken down by Ashwin after he got the better of Steve Smith.
Australia kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and we're reduced to 79/5. Fine innings from Marnus Labuschagne of 47 runs and Captain Tim Paine's unbeaten inning of 79 runs helped Australia avoided a low score as they were bowled out for 191 in 72.1 overs. Despite scoring less than 250 runs, India were able to have a lead of 53 runs, showcasing their bowling talent.
India lost Prithivi Shaw early once again after he was bowled out by Pat Cummins. This was the 15th Wicket of the day. India then sended Night Watchman Jasprit Bumrah to the crease. At the end of the day the score for India is 9/1 after 6 overs with a lead of 62 runs. They would be hoping for a good performance from the bat on Day 3.
