A 21-year-old woman has died in Limeira, São Paulo, after being launched off the Ponte do Esqueleto bridge during a bungee jumping activity without the safety rope attached to her body. The woman, identified as Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, fell approximately 40 meters straight to the ground in an incident that has now gone viral across social media platforms.
According to the Military Police, preliminary witness accounts indicate that staff operating the activity failed to lock the safety rope to her equipment before pushing her off the platform. People at the scene attempted CPR immediately after the fall, but paramedics from SAMU confirmed her death on site, attributing it to multiple traumatic injuries. The Civil Police have opened a formal investigation into the incident, treating it as a case of possible criminal negligence rather than an accident, given that the central safety mechanism of the activity appeared to be entirely absent at the moment she was launched.
The footage of the accident show several men wearing shirts bearing the names of the companies Entre Cordas and Ih Voei, both of which appear to have been involved in organizing or operating the activity. Neither company has issued any public statement or responded to media inquiries regarding the incident as of now. The footage shows the woman being prepared and carried to the launch platform moments before she was pushed off, with no visible check of the rope connection by any of the staff present.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage online, with social media users questioning how a commercial operator could fail to verify something as fundamental as a safety rope before launching a paying customer from a height of 40 meters. The Civil Police investigation remains ongoing, and further details regarding the identities and roles of those involved are expected to emerge as the inquiry progresses.
