IAF AN-32 crash Jorhat: Five personnel martyred, IAF confirms

Five Indian Air Force personnel were martyred when an AN-32 transport aircraft crashed while attempting to land at the Jorhat Air Force Station in Assam on Saturday morning, 13 June 2026. The co-pilot is said to have survived the fatal air crash but has suffered severe injuries. The Indian Air Force confirmed the deaths in an official statement, making this one of the most tragic aviation accidents the force has seen at the Jorhat base in recent years. A Court of Inquiry has been ordered.

The IAF officially named the five personnel who made the supreme sacrifice: Squadron Leader Prashant Singh, Flight Lieutenant Shubham Kumar, Sergeant Jitendra Sharma, Agniveervayu Khemaram Kumawat, and Agniveervayu Danish Alam. The aircraft had caught fire after crashing on landing, with firefighting and rescue teams deployed immediately at the Rowriah airbase.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has also expressed his anguish over the sudden tragedy that took place. Smoke could be seen rising from the crash site as officials launched a rescue operation. Photos and videos circulating on social media show the aircraft heavily damaged, overturned, and charred, with emergency responders on the ground.

The incident comes months after a Sukhoi-30MKI crash near Jorhat in March 2026, in which both pilots lost their lives. The AN-32 is a Soviet-era twin turboprop transport aircraft that has been in IAF service since the 1980s.
