On Saturday struggling Arsenal took on Chelsea in the London Derby on Boxing Day hoping for a positive result after being crashed out of the EFL Cup on Wednesday by 4-1 against Manchester City.
These two meet in the FA Cup Final on August 1 which Arsenal won thanks to a brace from Captain Pierre Emrick Aubameyang. They were without their Captain for this game and were winless in last 7 Premier League matches, drawing 2 and losing 5 in the process.
Arsenal dominated the first half and won a soft penalty when Reece James brought down Kieran Tierney. Alex Lacazetter took it and scored to give Arsenal the lead in the 34th minute.
In a season where every moment counts for Arsenal,Former Captain Granit Xhaka produced a moment of brillance after he smashed in a stunning free kick to give Arsenal a 2-0 lead in the 44th minute.
Arsenal's third goal involved a little bit of luck on its way in.Did he try to cross it or intended to shoot it, only Bukayo Saka will know as his effort somehow beated Chelsea Keeper Mendy as it went over his head and into the back of the net to make it 3-0 in the 56th minute and give Arsenal a firm Control in the game.
Arsenal had 2 good chances for a fourth goal but somehow managed to miss it with Elneny shot coming back after it hitted the crossbar in the 84th minute. A minute later Chelsea got a goal back after Tammy Abraham tucked the ball away with his chest from close range to make it 3-1. The goal was first disallowed by the linesman's flag for offside,but after consulting the VAR, Abraham was found to be onside and the goal was given.
Nerves started to jangle for Arsenal after that as Chelsea started to go all out.They gave away a penalty in the 90th minute when Arsenal Defender Pablo Mari brought down Mason Mount in the box.
Though,luck was on Arsenal side this time as Jorginho Chelsea's regular penalty taker failed to convert his effort as Leno saved it and ensured Arsenal's 2 goal lead and earn themselves massive three points.
There is no rest for any team due to the festive season as Chelsea host Aston Villa tomorrow with Arsenal travelling to South Coast to face Brighton on Tuesday.
