Liverpool and Spurs Drop Points on Sunday

 

With Manchester United and Leicester City playing out a 2-2 draw at the King Power Stadium and Everton winning later on against Sheffield, Liverpool had a chance to extend their lead at top of the table by 5 points when the faced 19th place West Bromwich Albion at Anfield.

However the toll of this heavy congested fixtures looked to have played a part in players fitness as Liverpool drew 1-1 with Albion in a game in which their manager Jurgen Klopp praised West Brom and stated that they had a plan and executed it well.

Despite taking the lead in the 12th minute from Sadio Mane, Liverpool were unable to convert other chances they had. Their injury listed extended in the second half when Centre Back Joel Matip suffered a groin injury.

West Brom got their decisive equalizer in the 82nd minute of the game when Semi Ajayi rose high and headed the ball which hitted the right post and bounced in. It was a second successive away draw against a "Big Six" side for West Brom as their fight for survival under new boss Sam Allardyce starts.

In the last fixture of the boxing day, Tottenham traveled to Molineux Stadium to face Wolverhampton Wanderers. Both had mixed results in recent weeks with the Visitors winless in the last 3 games.

They took the lead inside the first minute after Tanguy Ndombele shot deflected off from long range after Spurs had forced an early corner. The game was very much in Tottenham's hand but once again failing to take their chances proved costly for them.

Wolves equalised and earned a well end point from a corner in the 86th minute when Romain Saiss headed it in from a ball from Pedro Neto. Wolves has a chance to win it in the last minute when Ruben Neves found Fabio Silva but the forward was not able to generate the power in wanted in his header as the ball went straight to Lloris.

The festive period is not over yet as 3 matches are scheduled for tonight and 5 tomorrow as the teams try to bounce back quickly.
