Premier League considering "Two weeks Break" to Slow Down COVID-19 surge After reporting Highest Weekly Cases

This week the English Premier League reported 18 cases out of 1,479 tests done on players and staffs of clubs between Dec 21-Dec 27 which is said to be the highest.

The New Strain of COVID-19 found in London is said to be the reason behind this. Out of the 18 cases,5 come from Manchester City. On Christmas Day they announced that the duo of Gabriel Jesus and Kyle Walker had tested positive and further 3 more were tested 2 days ago resulting in their match against Everton been postponed.

According to reports from England, the Premier League Clubs are in contact with the Football Association (FA) and are proposing a two week break to slow down the surge of COVID-19.

In a circular released before the start of the season, the FA had announced that clubs should play games if atleast 14 players are fit and available. But in the current circumstances where anything can happen, it is better to postponed the games.

The FA and the Premier League will make a decision soon as they also want to avoid overload of fixtures later and ensuring there is enough time for players to be ready for the Euros in June,2021.
