Champions Liverpool slip up against Southampton on Monday Night

Following an emotional day for Liverpool after losing Gerry Marsden,singer of the club anthem "You'll Never Walk Alone", Liverpool slipped up against Southampton on Monday night living the title race wide open again.

Having draw their previous two games against bottom half clubs West Brom and Newcastle United, Liverpool couldn't afford any more slip ups if they were to hold advantage in the title picture. They faced Southampton at the Saint Mary's in a league fixture in which they last tasted defeat in 2016 when Southampton won 3-2 depsite being 0-2 down at halftime.

They took the lead inside 112 seconds of the game as Liverpool conceded a free kick. A move which can described as brillantly work from Training Ground allowed Former Liverpool striker Danny Ings to loft the ball over Alisson into the far corner to make it 1-0. There were no more goals in the game as Southampton gained a massive Result and damage Liverpool's hopes.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was left fuming with anger after Liverpool were denied two Controversial penalty decision. He would take a shot at Manchester United whom they face on January 17th with United now having a chance to go top of the table with a draw or a win against Burnley on January 13th.

He said in the post match interview "Manchester United had more penalties in two years than me in five and half year."

Southampton made Premier League history with the win against Liverpool last night. They become the first team to beat all 7 Winners of the competition in the season following a title win. They did it so against Blackburn Rovers on April 6 1996, and Manchester United on October 26,1996. They also defeated a title defending United in 1997-98, 2000-01 and 2003-04.

They Defeated Arsenal in 2002-03, then Against Manchester City in 2012-13 and 2019-20. They had to wait to beat Chelsea but did so in 2015-16 and lastly Defeated the remarkable Leicester City in 2016-17.
