Fifties from Labuschagne and debutant Pucovski puts Aussies in control in a Rain Curtailed Day 1

With the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Series now levelled at 1-1, India and Australia entered the third test aiming to take a decisive lead in the Series.

Australian Captain Tim Paine won the toss and elected to bat first. Australia welcomed back David Warner in the 11 and handed Will Pucovski the debut.

Australia made a lingering start and soon lost David Warner at the score of 6 in just the 4th over of the game. He was caught at slip by Mohammed Siraj.

With the scores at 21/1 in 7.1 overs, the weather changed and rain started pouring down forcing the covers to be brought on the ground and stopping the game. Due to the rain, around 40 overs were reduced from the Day.

Will Pucovski was left the hook in the 25th over when he misjudged the bouncer was thought to have been caught out by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant who had fumbled the catch on the first attempt. With the soft signal been out, the video replays showed that Pant had dropped the catch at the end and picked up the ball from the ground and the decision was reversed, thus saving Pucovski.

He took full use of that opportunity and played out a solid 100 run partnership with Marnus Labuschagne scoring fifty in his test Debut.

It was the other debutant of the game that got his wicket.India's Nandeep Saini strucked him in the pads for an LBW to break the partnership at a crucial time for India. Pucovski scored 62 runs off 110 balls.

Marnus Labuschagne was then joined by Steve Smith. The duo kept the scoreboard tiking comfortable with Labuschagne remaining unbeaten at the score of 67 and Steve Smith with a score of 31 at the end of Day 1 which saw Australia score 166/2 in 55 overs. Australia have a real grip with them and the momentum is on their side.
