Former Union minister & Senior Congress Leader Buta Singh Passes Away

On Saturday, 2 January 2021, Former Union minister Buta Singh passed away in New Delhi at the age of 86. Singh, a senior Congress leader, was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), where he was in a state of comatose after suffering a brain hemorrhage. His family said he died at around 7.10 am.

Singh will be cremated at the Lodhi Road crematorium in New Delhi today.

Several prominent people such as President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Modi and other political leaders mourned the death of Buta Singh and passed condolences to his bereaved family.

Buta Singh was born in Jalandhar, Punjab. He served as Lok Sabha MP for eight terms from the Jalore constituency in Rajasthan. Singh was first associated with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), but later joined the Congress in the 1960s. He also served as the governor of Bihar.
