Manchester United go top of the table; Spurs drop Points again in Midweek Action

 

The Conclusion of the Third Round of the FA Cup saw the resumption of the Premier League fixtures in midweek action were fixtures which were Postponed earlier on through the season due to the involvement of teams in the latter stages in European cup competition or COVID-19 related.

The Big Headline of the midweek was Manchester United's away win at Burnley. That 1-0 away win thanks to deflected volley of Paul Pogba who himself looks to found his form again,at Turf Moor took them to the top of the Premier League table with a 3 point lead ahead of their next opposition Liverpool whom the face on Sunday.

Losing to Crystal Palace at Home in the first game of the season and then getting thumped 6-1 by Tottenham Hotspurs on October 4,Ole's men have turned things around for the good. They haven't lost a league game since losing to Arsenal on November 1 and now have a chance to open up a 6 point gap between them and Liverpool should they beat the Champions at Anfield.

Elsewhere United's neighbours Manchester City hosted Brighton and Hove Albion at the Etihad. The previous 7 league meeting between this two had ended with an aggregate score of 20-2 in City's favour. In what looked like to be routine home win for City,Brighton certainly made them try to everything to get a result.

A first half goal from Phil Foden in the 44th minute gave the Citizens the lead. They had plenty of other opportunities too put were unable to take it. They had a Penalty right at the death but Raheem Sterling was unable to keep his shot down and blazed it over the bar. With that win City reached the top 4 for the first time this season and are now 4 points behind United with a game in hand.

With City's win, Spurs had a chance to go third ahead on Goal Difference of City with a win at home against London rivals Fulham. Just like City Spurs too had chances but were able to only make one count as Harry Kane headed in through a driving header in the 25th minute.

In the 72nd minute,Spurs had a chance to make it 2-0 but Son Heung-Min was denied by the post. That missed caused the game for Spurs as 2 minutes later Fulham got a deserving equalizer through Cavaleiro. Spurs are now 6th, 2 points shy of Manchester City,Leicester City and Everton on 3rd, 4th and 5th with 32 points each respectively.
