After a frantic Tuesday Night Football, the midweek Action continued in the Premier League as 2nd placed Manchester United hosted bottom placed Sheffield United at Old Trafford. With City's win on Tuesday,United had a chance to leapfrog their City rivals again and claim back the first spot. They came into this game after an empathic 3-2 win against arch rivals Liverpool in the FA Cup fourth round.
In an unpredictable season were everything is possible,it still came as a shock when Sheffield United stunned Manchester United to get a famous 2-1 win At Old Trafford for the first time since 1973.
It was the Blades who took the lead in the 23rd minute when former Manchester City academy player Kean Bryan who flicked his header from close range, rising highest and beating David De Gea to make it 1-0. This was the first time that Sheffield United had gone into the halftime with a lead in this season.
United had a goal disallowed by the officals in the 30th minute when Anthony Martial steered the ball in. However the officals saw United Keeper Harry Maguire make contact with Blades keeper Aaron Ramsdale.
United though were accustom to this position. They had won many games this season despite being a goal down. Their equalizer came in the 64th minute through their Skipper Harry Maguire whose brillant header found the back of the net.
However shocking defending costed Manchester United. 10 minutes later in the 74th minute, Sheffield United had the ball back into the net after passing the ball comfortably around the United Defence. Oliver Burke's shot took a deflection of Axel Tuanzebe and went into the net to extraordinarily make it 2-1 for the Blades.
They hold on to that result and earned a massive win not only in the context of the title race but also for their own survival prospect. They are still 10 points behind 17th placed Brighton but once again anything can happen this season. They will travel to the Blue Half of Manchester on Saturday to take on leaders City as Manchester United travel to London to face off resurgent Arsenal.
On Thursday Night, Champions Liverpool faced off against Tottenham Hotspurs. A month ago both of them were in the top 4 when they faced at Anfield. A month later both started out of the top 4 as Liverpool tried to end their goal scoring drought in the league and end their winless run.
Despite the ball being in the net in the third minute through Son Heung-Min, the goal was disallowed by VAR as Son was judged offside by few inches. After that exchanges followed between the two but it was the Champions who broke the deadlock in the 4th minute of first half injury time.
Sadio Mane played out an ball across the face of the goal leaving a simple Tap in for Roberto Firmino to make it 1-0. That goal ended Liverpool's goal drought of 482 minutes in the League.
They soon added a second goal in the 47th minute as Alexander Arnold drove in a Rebounded shot after being misplaced by Hugo Lloris to make it 2-0. 2 minutes later, Spurs got back in the game as Pierre Emile Højbjerg cutted a shot across the goal which beated Alisson to make it 2-1.
With a goal disallowed in the 59th minute by VAR for offside for Liverpool, the killed off the game in the 65th minute when Sadio Mane thundered it past Lloris. Liverpool are now back on 4th, 4 behind Leaders Manchester City though City have a game in hand.
