Spurs beat Brentford 2-0 to Reach EFL Cup Final

Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspurs have booked their place in the 2020-21 EFL Cup Final after they Defeated Championship Side Brentford 2-0 in the first semi final. [Note- To reduce the stress of fixtures, the FA decided to have one legged semi finals inside of two legs]. They will now either face Manchester United or 3 time Defending Champions Manchester City in the final.

The Hosts,Spurs came into this game with a 3-0 impressive win over Leeds United in the league while Brentford came into the game on a 16 game unbeaten streak with 3 wins out of their last 3 games with the last being a 2-1 win against AFC Bournemouth.

It was obviously going to be a hard task for a Championship side to face against the likes of potential Premier League title challengers. Spurs took the lead in the 12th minute through a powerful header from Moussa Sissoko as he smashed the ball into the top right corner from a cross from Sergi Regulion.

Brentford thought they had equalised in the 65th minute when Ivan Toney slammed in from close range following a weak attempt of pushing from Hugo Lloris. A tight VAR Call saw Toney's knee was ahead of Sissoko and the goal was ruled out for Offside.

Three minutes later, Tottenham wrapped up the game after Son Heung-Min was realised through on goal by Tanguy Ndombele. The South Korean made no mistake in his finish as he easily beated Brentford keeper David Raya to make it 2-0.

Spurs will now have a chance in April to end their drought for a silverware of 13 long years. Their last major honour was the 2007-08 League Cup. More interesting thing is that Jose Mourinho has never lost a league cup final in his tenures with Chelsea and Manchester United winning it in 2004-05,2006-07,2014-15 with Chelsea and 2016-17 with Manchester United.
