Between the constant hike of prices on fuels in the country, Mumbaikars will now have to pay more for a standard autorickshaw and black and yellow taxi ride as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) agreed for a 3 Rs hike in minimum fares for both auto and taxi.
The minimum fare for auto and taxi for a 1.5 km was Rs 18 and Rs 22 respectively. With the new hike now, the minimum fares will be Rs 21 for autorickshaw and Rs 25 for taxi.
The per km rate has also increased due to this. Earlier the per km rate for auto was Rs 12.19 and for taxi was Rs 14.84. Now the per km for an auto and taxi will be Rs 14.20 and Rs 16.93 respectively.
Maharashtra Transport Minister Anil Parab said "The price hike will be implemented from March 1. Autorickshaws and taxi drivers will have to get their meters calibrated by May 30."
The decision to increase the price has been taken under considering several factors such as transport bodies, cost of vehicles, insurance cost, CNG prices, license fees, interest of loans etc.
There has not been a hike for the past 6 years with the last one being in 2015. Anil Parab has said that this decision is taken to provide some relief to them(auto and taxi drivers) as well.
"The Hike in Petrol, Diesel and CNG prices is an important factor. In this backdrop, auto and taxi drivers are also a section of society who should be given Support by the government."
