A day after Disha Ravi pleaded to the Delhi High Court to seeking restrictions of Delhi Police and three media channels from publishing private information and the way they covered her arrest case, the Delhi High Court has warned the Delhi Police and media.
It has asked Delhi Police to stick to their stand and have asked the reporters to ensure the "probe is not hampered". Meanwhile Disha Ravi has been directed to ensure that there is "no indulgence to malign the police and other authorities."
The Court said "While a Journalist cannot be asked to reveal their source, the same has to be authentic. The Delhi Police claims that it has not leaked anything whereas the media claims to be contrary."
Despite Delhi Police claiming that they had not leaked any personal information, her lawyer Akhil Sibal said " Half Baked, speculative about an ongoing investigation was being disseminated."
The Court added "Right to Privacy, the sovereignty, and integrity of the country and the freedom of speech need to be balanced. The recent coverage definitely shows there is sensationalised reporting by the media. While press briefings are held generally, media cannot disseminate the information in such a sensationalised manner."
