On Tuesday, the Bombay High Court said that on Wednesday (31st March) they will hear the PIL (Public Interest Litigation) filed by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh seeking a CBI Investigation against Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, whom he claimed had asked Police Officer Sachin Vaze to collect Rs 100 Crore for him(Deshmukh) each month from Restaurants and Bars.
Singh had earlier filed a petition in the Supreme Court who then directed him to approach the Bombay High Court regarding the matter. The Apex Court had labelled the matter as "quite serious".
After he was sacked from his post as Mumbai Police Commissioner,Param Bir Singh wrote a letter and complained to CM Uddhav Thackeray about Deshmukh and his "illegal practices".
On Tuesday, senior counsel Vikram Nankani who is appearing for Singh, mentioned the petition in front of a division bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice GS Kulkarni and has sought for urgent hearing.
In his PIL, Singh has also alleged of Deshmukh regularly interfering in police investigations and putting pressure on him. He has also asked the High Court to direct the CBI to secure CCTV footage of Deshmukh's residence from earlier this year before it gets "destroyed".
