Erling Haaland's brace takes Borussia Dortmund into the Quarter Finals

 

In the second game of the night, German Outfit Borussia Dortmund knocked out reigning Europa League winners Sevilla out the Champions League as the drew 2-2 in the second leg but won the tie by an aggregate score of 5-4. Another Round of 16 classic.

The German side came into this game with a 3-2 away win in Spain. However their last match was not a memorable one as they lost the Der Klassiker 4-2 despite being 2-0 up inside 9 minutes. As for Sevilla they came into this match on the back of three consecutive loses in all Competition, recently losing 2-1 to 17th placed Elche.

The first goal game in the 35th minute against the run of play when Mahmoud Dahoud laid out a throughball to Marco Reus. The Dortmund Skipper then rolled out a ball inside the six yard box where Haland was ready to sweep it into an empty net.

The second goal for Dortmund came in a bizarre fashion to say the least. Haland played a neat one two with Thorgan Hazard before racing into the Dortmund penalty area. He shrugged off a challenge from Fernando and slotted it home to make it 2-0 but the referee and VAR disallowed the goal and instead gave a penalty to them as Kounde had followed Haland a minute earlier.

Haland's penalty was saved by the keeper Yassine Bono, however he was judged to be off his line and the penalty was retaken. At he second time of asking, Haland made no mistake as he slotted it home in the bottom right hand corner to finally make it 2-0 in the 52nd minute.

Sevilla got a penalty for themselves as well as Emre Can pushed down De Jong. Youssef En-Nesyri emphatically smashed his penalty down the middle to make it 2-1 in the 68th minute.

Dortmund had chances to wrap up the game but failed to do so as Sevilla snatched up a draw as a consolation in the sixth minute of injury time, thanks to a header from En-Nesyri. This is the first time Dortmund have advanced to the Quarter Finals since 2016-17.
