Liverpool's Home Misery continues, City 14 points ahead of United

As we head into March, the final stretch of the Footballing Marathon goes into its final lap. The fight for survival at the bottom intensifies, the ones in the middle, push and puff for a place in continental football next season and offcourse the debate for who would wear the crown and be the Kings of the land.

It looks like the end is nigh for Sheffield United at the bottom, whereas West Brom would be praying for another one of "Sam Allardyce" mircale. It getting tight for a top 4 finish as 5 points separate 4th placed Chelsea and 8th place Tottenham Hotspurs after the Blues victory against Liverpool and as for the the top, it is a now a question of when will Manchester City clinch the title.

The runaway leaders look well set for a third league title in four seasons. They extended their winning run to 21 games when they Defeated Wolves 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday. They took the lead through an own goal by Dendoncker in the 15th minute but were given a scar when Wolves equalised through Skipper Connor Coady in the 61st minute. However three late goals from City with a brace from Gabriel Jesus and Riyad Mahrez signalled their dominace.

24 hours later both Leicester City and Manchester United failed to solidify their position in the top 3 as both ended up drawing their games. For a third game in a row in all competition United drew 0-0. Due to that result, they are now 14 points behind Manchester City at the top and guess whom they play next? Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday in the *crucial* derby game.

However the key fixture of this midweek action was between Liverpool and Chelsea. At the start of the season both of them were expected to battle it for title but were now struggling for a top 4 finish.

It has been a harsh year on Liverpool. They won their first league title in 30 years but had no one to celebrate it with the COVID-19 lockdown preventing the gathering of Supporters. Now the Premier League has discussed that fans might be back from Matchweek 37 and Matchweek 38 but till that time, their crown will be long gone.

Having not lost a single league game at Anfield for 3 and half years, Liverpool suffered their 5 successive loss at home when Chelsea became the lastest team to beat them at home after Burnley, Brighton, Manchester City and Everton. The only goal of the match game from a brillant finish from youngster Mason Mount in the 42nd minute after he slotted his finish in the bottom right corner. Before that Chelsea had a goal disallowed by VAR for offside when Timo Werner rounded off Alisson and finished the move.

The surprising thing was that Liverpool's Talisman Mohammed Salah was subbed off in the 62nd minute. Their first shot on target came in the 85th minute but once again they failed to convert those chances. Liverpool are now 7th with 43 points from 27 games but things can get even more tough if Everton and West Ham United both who are ahead of them in the table pick up wins as they both have a game in hand.
