On Monday 8th March,2021 a 65 year old man from Goregoan, Mumbai collapsed in a chair at a nursing home in Jogeshwari and after one and half hour, passed away in the ICU. This is now the first post vaccination death in the city.
The BMC on its behalf have said that they cannot link his death directly with the vaccination until a review is done by a forensic expert.
According to the statement released by the BMC, the man arrived at the vaccination centre at 3:30pm. He had several comorbidities including heart disease, BP and Diabetes. He was injected a 0.5 ml of Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine Covidshield. He collapsed in a chair at 3:37pm and was later rushed to the hospital and admitted into the ICU before passing away at 5:05 pm.
Executive Health Officer Dr Mangala Gomare said that an executive committee will review this situation. "We don't know if it was a case of anaphylactic shock. The comittee will opine after looking at all details" she said.
According to offical health reports, around 40 deaths have occured after immunization, however non was caused by the vaccine itself.
