Pakistan to get 45 million COVID-19 vaccines from India via Gavi

Despite no love lost between each other, India will send around 45 million doses of Indian Coronavirus Vaccine, Covidshield to neighbour Pakistan in the month of March.

The vaccines will be received under an agreement with Gavi(Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation), the vaccine alliance. Additional 16 million doses will also be received by Pakistan till the month of June,2021.

India has so far supplied vaccines to a total of 65 countries under three categories. The first one being under agreement with Gavi. The second being grant(free of cost) and the third being through commerical sales.

According to a report from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India has so far supplied around 580 lakhs of doses. In this around 163 lakhs have been supplied under agreement with Gavi, 77 lakhs under Grant and around 338 lakhs through commerical deals. Bangladesh is on top of the list of countries which have received vaccines from India with around 90 lakh doses.

Bilateral trade between the two countries has almost come to a major half after the Pulwama terror attack in 2019. Though this being a "life saving" incident an exception is said to be done.
