14 Day Lockdown announced in Karnataka; Free Vaccination for people between 18-45 years

Following the Karnataka Cabinet meeting on Monday, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa announced that the state will be going under a lockdown for 14 days from April 27 at 9pm to May 9. According to CM Yediyurappa, essential shops will remain open for 4 hours from 6am to 10 am. No public transport will be available.

Separate Guidelines are set to be issued later in the day. As COVID-19 cases started to rose in the state of Karnataka and the capital city Bengaluru, the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) held a meeting on April 24 in which few members suggested a two week long Lockdown. The Government then followed this recommendation.

This decision comes a day after Karnataka recorded it's biggest single day spike with 34,804 new cases, taking the total caseload of the state to 13.39 lakh. Out of 34,804 cases, Bengaluru alone reported 20,733 cases.

CM Yediyurappa also announced free vaccination for those between 18-45 years. "Covid-19 vaccine will be provided free of cost to citizens between 18-44 years of age at all govt vaccination centres across Karnataka. Union Government vaccination drive for citizens above 45 years of age will continue. I urge all eligible to register themselves from April 28" he tweeted.
