On Wednesday night Manchester City got the better of Paris Saint Germain in the first leg as they cameback from 1-0 down to win 2-1 and leave Paris with the tie firmly in their hands.
As soon as the draw was finalized, fans were eager to see this mouth watering clash between two attacking heavyweights. Both clubs have enjoyed a fair share of domestic success since their takeovers (Manchester City in 2008 and Paris Saint Germain in 2011). However one piece missing from their trophy cabinet was the UEFA Champions League title.
PSG reached their first ever final last year but came up short against Bayern Munich. They made up for it this season as they knocked them out on away goals. This was just their third semi final appearance. For City this was their second semi final appearance, first after 2015-16 season when they knocked out Paris Saint Germain 3-2 on aggregate in the Quarter Finals.
It turned out to be game of two halves. PSG dominated Manchester City completely in the first half, forcing them to commit errors and misplace the passes frequently. They took the lead in the 15th minute, when Angel Di Maria's curling corner was headed in by skipper Marquinhos.
In the second half, the tide turned completely in City's favor as they started to press up high and pinned PSG in their own half. They got the equalizer in the 64th minute in a strange fashion as Kevin De Bruyne tried to cross the ball up front. The ball bounced up front and went in leaving Keylor Navas and PSG Defenders looking at themselves.
The decisive moment game in the 71st minute, when Riyad Mahrez tucked home a free kick through the wall. Paredes had brought down Foden and gave away the free kick. It looked like De Bruyne will hit it, but he allowed Mahrez to have a go. The Algerian's effort went in through a big gap in the wall between Paredes and Kimpembe.
PSG then finished with 10 men as defender Idrissa Gueye was sent off for an awful challenge on Gundogan in the 77th minute. PSG will now travel to Manchester in 6 days time in an attempt to pull up a comeback.
For City, they can go into the game being crowned Champions of England, if they win their game against Crystal Palace and Manchester United lose to Liverpool.
