An Icon.A Legend.A Country's Hero. All of these suit perfectly for the Little Man from Mumbai who left such a mark in the world of Cricket, that made him God Of Cricket. Today the "Master Blaster" Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar turns 48.
Born in 1973 in a Maharashtrian Family to well known novelist & Poet Ramesh Tendulkar and mother Rajni, his father named him Sachin, after his favorite music director and Bollywood Legend Sachin Dev Burman.
He started his career at the age of 14 and also served as a ball boy in the 1987 Cricket World Cup. His first season in first class cricket was good enough to earn him an international call up at the age of 16 against Pakistan in 1989. He made his test debut against Pakistan at Karachi.
What followed was a legendary 24 Year Career which inspired later generations to take up the game. In the 2007/08 Australian Tour, he surpassed Brian Lara for the most runs scored in Test Cricket. In that same innings he also crossed the 12,000 Test Run mark.
Sachin had already registered his name among the great but he was not finished yet. On February 24,2010 he became the first batsmen around the world to score a double century in One Day International, breaking the previous highest score of 194 of Saeed Anwar. In 2011 he achieved his biggest feat as India won the Cricket World Cup. He was carried on the shoulders of Indian Player after the Final at Wankhede.
On 16th March,2012 Tendulkar scored his 100th International Hundred, a feat achieved by no one as of 2021. In 2013 he announced his retirement from International format after a two match test series against West Indies. His final test match was played at his home ground at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
He is the leading run scorer in both Tests and ODI with 15,921 runs in Tests and 18,426 runs in ODIs. He won the Arjuna Award in 1994, the Padma Shri in 1999, the Padma Vibhushan in 2008 and the Bharat Ratna in 2014. For his outstanding contribution to Cricket, he was inducted in the ICC Hall of Fame in 2019.
The chants of "Sachin,Sachin" surely brings back memories and tears to the eyes. At the moment he is at home recovering from COVID-19. He thanked everyone for their well wishes and urged COVID-19 survivors to donate plasmas.
Thank you everyone for your warm wishes. It's made my day special. I am very grateful indeed.
