Real Sociedad beat Basque Rivals Athletic Bilbao to end 33 years title drought

[Note- This is the not the 2020-21 Final. The 2019-20 final was postponed due to COVID-19 and took place yesterday. The 2020-21 Final will be played in two weeks time between FC Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao.]

After being nearly forced to play the final a year later due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the 2019-20 Copa Del Rey finally came to an end when Real Sociedad defeated Basque Rivals Athletic Bilbao 1-0 to end a 33 year title drought.

As mentioned in the note above, Athletic Bilbao will have another shot at the Copa Del Rey in two weeks time when they face FC Barcelona in this season's final.

A second half penalty from Mikel Oyarzabal in the 63rd minute. It was a tight, scrappy contest which was mostly dominated by Defence. This was Sociedad third cup triumph and the first piece of Silverware since 1987. Their previous triumph came in 1909.

It comes as a huge blow for Athletic Bilbao, as within two weeks time they will play in the final again. Bilbao have won the competition 23 times, only bettered by FC Barcelona (30). However they have now lost the cup final four times since they last won in 1984.
