Russia's Sputnik V gets approval for emergency usage by expert panel in India

As India continues to face the second wave of COVID-19 and vaccine shortage, The Experts Panel of the India's drug regulator have approved the immediate usage of Russia's Sputnik V COVID-19 Vaccine.

The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) will however take a final call on this decision. If Sputnik V gets approved then it will be third vaccine after Covidshield and Covaxin to be used in India. The vaccine will be imported immediately from Russia to India for emergency usage.

So far Sputnik V has shown an efficiency rate of 91.6 per cent in the interim analysis of phase three clinical trial which included data on 19,886 Russian volunteers.
