In a disheartening and tragic incident in Rajasthan, a 34 year old women sustained serious burns after she jumped on her father's funeral pyre during his cremation. Her father had died after contracting COVID-19.
Damodardas Sharda (73) died at a hospital in Barmer district of Rajasthan on Tuesday. While he was being cremated,the youngest of his three daughters, Chandra Sharda suddenly jumped on the pyre. Although she was pulled out by the surrounding people, she suffered around 70 per cent burn injuries.
She was later taken to a hospital nearby and was later referred to a hospital in Jodhpur for treatment, said the Police to PTI.
- "Damodardas Sharda had three daughters. His wife died some time ago. The youngest of his three daughters jumped on the funeral pyre" said a police official.
According to the locals, she was very close to her father and his passing away effected her mentally.
