In yet another case of online fraud, A Railway Police Protection (RPF) constable was duped of Rs 94,990 by a cyber fraudster who impersonated himself as an official of a private airline. He tricked the constable into transferring the amount in the pretext of helping him cancel an air ticket.
As soon as he the constable found he was cheated, he ran to his bank to block his account, only to realize that his money was already used in online shopping.
According to the police, the 28 year old constable, had booked an air ticket to Delhi for May 12 through an app on May 10. Later in the day he found out the timing on this ticket was wrong and decided to cancel the ticket.
He went on Google and searched the private airline customer care number. After calling the number, the constable received a phone call from another number as the speaker identified himself as an official from the refund department.
The constable was asked to download "Anydesk App" a computer application which is said to give remote access to a mobile or a computer. Within minutes of installing and giving access to the caller,he found out that around Rs 94,990 had been used up from his account on seven different transactions.
We would once again like to warn our readers to not share any sort of personal details to unknown callers.
