On Saturday after a 15th hike in fuel price this month, the petrol price crossed the exorbitant Rs 100 per litre mark in Mumbai.
According to the price notification of state owned fuel retailers, petrol price was increased by 26 paise per litre and diesel price by 28 paise per litre.
The price of petrol had already crossed the Rs 100 mark in several cities in Rajasthan,Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Petrol now costs Rs 100.19 a litre while diesel costs Rs 92.17 per litre in Mumbai.
Fuel prices differ from state to state due to the incidence of local taxes such as Value Added Tax (VAT) and freight charges. Since Rajasthan levies the highest VAT in the country, the fuel prices are higher in Rajasthan.
Meanwhile in the capital Delhi, the price of petrol rose to Rs 93.94 per litre whereas diesel price rose up to Rs 84.89 per litre.
Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan has the highest Petrol and Diesel price in the country at Rs 104.94 per litre and Rs 97.79 per litre respectively.
