11 killed in tragic building collapse in Mumbai

 

In a tragic incident in Mumbai, Eleven people including eight children were killed while seven others left injured after two floors of a three-storey building collapsed on a single-storey house in Malwani Area of Malad on Wednesday night.

  • "It's an unfortunate incident. It was a G+2 building that fell on another building. Eighteen people have been rescued, of whom 11 died. Police will carry out a proper investigation and take further action" said Additional CP Dilip Sawant.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the incident took place at 11 pm on Wednesday night and the collapse has shaken nearby residential structure. Residents from three nearby structures have been evacuated as they are not in good conditions.

  • Many people are still feared to be trapped under the debris as the evacuation process continues. 

Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray has announced a Rs 5 lakh compensation for the victims and has said that the state will bear the cost of treatment of those injured.
